A native of Michigan, I have lived in the Midwest, New England, and the Rocky Mountain regions of the country. This experience has contributed much the five books I’ve written so far—Colorado: An Explorer’s Guide, Backroads & Byways of Michigan, Best Tent Camping: Michigan, Best Hikes Near Detroit and Ann Arbor, and Backroads & Byways of Ohio.
Much of the time I travel with my wife and our two kids. This has created some great opportunities to explore what it’s like to camp and hike, or just hit the road, with children.
These days I am revising my travel guides and pitching ideas on books about the Great Lakes. I dream of someday writing a book on the national parks of Israel, a biography of John Woolman, and thrilling fiction for young readers.
If you’re interested to know some details about my professional life, or some trivia about my personal life, check out my graphically configured resume. Not only does this page outline my experience, I designed it myself. If you find it to be professional and impressive, then “Thanks!” If it seems a bit amateurish, then “Hey, I wasn’t trained in this. Gimme a break.” In either case, I hope it’s informative.
