A native of Michigan, I have lived in the Midwest, New England, the Rocky Mountain, and now Southern regions of the country. This experience has contributed a lot to the ten books I’ve worked on so far—Colorado: An Explorer’s Guide, Backroads & Byways of Michigan, Best Tent Camping: Michigan, Best Hikes Near Detroit and Ann Arbor, Backroads & Byways of Ohio, Michigan's Best Nature Centers, and four books on hiking in Texas.
Much of the time I travel with my two kids. This has created some great opportunities to explore what it’s like to camp and hike, or just hit the road, with children.
These days I am revising my travel guides and pitching ideas on books about the Great Lakes. I dream of someday writing a book on the national parks of Israel, a biography of John Woolman, and thrilling fiction for young readers.
If you’re interested to know some details about my professional life, or some trivia about my personal life, check out my graphically configured resume. Not only does this page outline my experience, I designed it myself. If you find it to be professional and impressive, then “Thanks!” If it seems a bit amateurish, then “Hey, I wasn’t trained in this. Gimme a break.” In either case, I hope it’s informative.
